Special Orders

Special Orders pplacing Van Gundy on flying status

Sergeant Van Gundy flew a number of missions during his career. Some of them were training flights while he was learned his job. Others were combat missions flown against the enemy. Unfortunately, on his last mission, his aircraft was shot down. He was captured and because a Prisoner of War (POW).

After becoming a POW, Van Gundy was no longer a member of the 461st Bomb Group so his flight record would be sent to his Next of Kin. In his case that was his mother, Louise Van Gundy. The following eight images are the package sent home.
