Kriegsgefangene

Kriegsgefangene is the German word for POW.  I felt it appropriate to use that word when developing this section of the website.

This is a map of the German POW camps or Kriegefangenenlager during WWII.  It also shows a number of targets hit by the Fifteenth Air Force.  Click on the image for a larger view.

Life as a POW is hard to imagine.  It was difficult for everyone.  I can only guess just how hard life in a prison camp was.  The following is from Stalag Luft IV, but probably pretty well tells the story of what life was like.
